The Pieces Are Now Falling Into Place.

As many of you know, for the past 5 or 6 years, I have been actively pursuing Social Security Disability.  It has not been an easy road. It was hard for even my lawyer to wrap his head around the fact I have a Masters degree in Library Science.  Never mind that there was little wrong with the left side of my brain. I, like many with disabilities, have been able to beat the odds and overcome adversity. My parents were told I was blind and would never walk. Sure, both are issues for me but I can still do them!  And then my dream job at the seminary happened. How can I prove I can't work when I in fact am and am now reasonably able to pay most of my expenses? Should I have turned down? Maybe. Have I ever pondered saying "No?" Hell, no. Two months later, the seizures happened and simultaneously, I experienced the darkness months of my life (Much of that time I don't actually have memory of...) but my case, morbidly gained new life. Recently, I've been mentally, ps...

A Smattering of Topics

Reading a friend's blog recently, I realized that, despite things in my life going at snail's pace, I've probably never been happier. I love my volunteer job which only confirms two things about me: I want to be a librarian. Too many people in my age bracket don't really know what they want. Some think they know yet aren't happy now that they're doing it, some think they know but don't make the attempt to see if they're right for legitimate reasons like they can't afford to right now or not so legitimate reasons such as they're too scared so I find it satisfying that I know what I want. The trick is now finding a way to make it financially a reality. I'm working on it but, meanwhile, I realized the second thing about me: I don't need money to be happy. Of all the jobs I've had, it was the volunteer jobs and the internships that tapped into my interests. Given how our society works, most would probably argue that I need to change my at...

Part Two.

When we last left our heroes yesterday they had just gone to a concert at a casino in CT. And now, the continuation! The next morning, Thursday, I went to the dentist for a routine cleaning. I was lucky enough to have the associate dentist herself instead of a hygenist. My regular readers know why I say "lucky." Yes, she's very cute. I think I had the most fun conversation at the dentist that day than I've ever had in my life; at the dentist... I had mentioned I had moved to Maine and was down for a concert. "Poison?" she asked. "No, that was a few days ago. You don't look like a '80's metal fan..." When I told her I had gone to see Bob Dylan she didn't seem that surprised. I don't know what that means...She told me her boyfriend loves Poison and goes every year. She added that he "thankfully" doesn't make her go... That night, I think, we watched the movie Illusion which starred Kirk Douglas as a film director ...

At Long Last, A Real Post!

Yesterday was another up and down day. In the morning, I called my agency and left a message concerning the upcoming work I will be considered for. She calls back only a few hours later which I love. I hope this the norm with this branch. At the Hartford branch, only two ever called me back. It was irritating. Anyway, she informed me that the assignments were pushed back until after The Fourth which meant I could go home to see my last concert in CT before my parents move up north later this summer. Also, I'm getting my teeth cleaned while I can. Woo Hoo! (I'll leave it to you to decide which event deserves the Woo Hoo...) I called my father to give him the news and he asks if I have money to pay for bus ticket. I didn't think so but I went online to check anyway and discovered I was in the red! It's a long story but let's just say we're not ordering from Papa John's again. There's much better pizza elsewhere anyway. (They need a Bertucci's up here, ...

New Home, New Post

Hello from the snow-covered state of Maine! I have actually moved and am pretty well moved in. I have the new bank account and bed and the bus pass. I have my computer and internet set up (as you can see) and I have food. Monday, I should be able to get things set up with my agency so yay! I need to still figure out where to find a DVD case and an adapter to hook my old printer up to a USB port but, other than that, things are going well. I even encouraged my cousin to get a blog of his own. Check it out!

Out Like So Much Other Garbage

So Thursday I started a new temp assignment at a waste management company. The day went well I thought. I did some job shadowing of an account manager and helped her do a Fed-EX mailing. I come home and check in with my agency as I was asked to do by them and I'm informed they received an e-mail saying the company didn't want me back as I wasn't a good fit. No other explanation was given to them. I think it was really that my skills were best suited for keeping the clients they already had happy which I assume they already had enough people to do that and really wanted people to bring more clients in which is not me. Once again, it seems the corporate world is not for me. So mainly because I'm trying to be responsible and build up my bank account and not really because my mother keeps hounding me about it, I've decided to begin my birthday moratorium even though the actual day isn't for about two months. This means I didn't buy the new Bob Dylan CD yester...

Random Comments Into My Life

We did yardwork yesterday. I picked up a lot of sticks. Home Depot sucks on a Friday morning. My father and I went to get a new gascan for the mower and there was only one employee around to help us...and she didn't know anything about how these new fangled gas cans work... So due to a bank error when I reset my bank account so I could accurately keep track again, I had like a hundred dollars less in my account than I thought so my last bill payment put me in the hole. This would've been all right and easily fixed if I had been paid for the last week of my mailroom job but, oddly, I still have not been even though it's been weeks. I don't know if I can accurately convey how infuriated this makes me. If it doesn't happen soon, heads will roll! Also yesterday I re-watched the Enterprise episode "Regeneration"; this time with audio commentary from the writers. They made some valid points I hadn't considered on the issue of if this episode screws with...

Scotland and Financial Aggravation

So the "good" news is that I have applied for the job in Scotland. We shall see how that turns out. Today, I exercised the old abs for like 20 minutes. It felt good. They are really my only problem area. I'm happy with my body as whole. Tonight, I received in the mail that my account has been overdrawn again and it's for a purchase I didn't remember making so I go through the hassle of calling my bank to find out what the purchase was and am given a spelled out word that makes no sense to me and a phone number. It turns out it was for a spyware software that I no longer use and thought cancelled like a year ago that apparently automatically renewed. So I argue with the guy, very politely my father says, that this purchase was made. I think it's finally resolved except I need to make a deposit tomorrow just to make sure. This is true much of the time but I did not, in fact, find this funny as it suggests. Likestrek -- [noun]: A person who laughs at anythi...

Welcome To My Roller Coaster

The past few days have been a bit of a roller coaster for me. First I discover my bank account was in the red and I had no prospects for a job. (Thankfully the notice didn't take into account the money I deposited from my cat sitting job so I'm ok.) Then I went on the date yesterday and had a good time but then realized, as I know you knew I would, that I have absolutely no idea where to proceed from here with that. Today, I sent off three applications and was called by the library in Lady Vader's town and asked to come in for an interview on Wednesday. Remember that test I took with them? (You know, the one where I scored pretty high yet they still rejected me?) Well, they used that to create a pool to draw from instead of placing a new ad. Honestly, I don't really know anything about the job but it's a job and in a library so good enough I say. I was just so preoccupied with my date that I didn't tell you the movies I saw over the vacation weekend. As you know...
