One More For November

We're down to our last piece of pie and we're tossing the turkey carcass out so I think Thanksgiving 2009 is finally over. It may have actually ended when my parents went home on Friday but whatever...Yes, my parents came down and we had the dinner upstairs in my aunt's apartment. It was just the five of us. On Wednesday, I tried once more to get my ID replaced. They were open this time but I forgot to put my birth certificate back in my bag. Because this was a replacement, they had the address on file but I couldn't prove I was born here. Yes, I was born here then but I'm not now? Do terrorists have time travel tech to change this? Anyway, the saga continues... This is my first Christmas using Pandora. I have some thoughts. James Taylor's cover of Joni Mitchell's "River" is the most boring version I have ever heard but it perhaps is the only male version I've ever heard...Apparently, Louie Armstrong put "What A Wonderful World" on...

More Thoughts By the Numbers

1. In case you missed my raving about the movie, I so enjoyed Pirate Radio . What do you get when you mix the hilarious Brit writer Richard Curtis, of Vicar of Dibley , Love Actually , Notting Hill and 4 Weddings and a Funeral , and music of the '60's? This gem. Go see it! 2. I'm thinking I should try the DMV again tomorrow as I have Wednesday and Friday off and Friday is Black Friday which may be scary being the mall and all. I'm still curious where my ID went in the first place... 3. We're having Thanksgiving up at my aunt's apartment. In attendance will be my aunt, my cousin (The one I live with not the one I can't stand), my parents and myself. The menu sounds traditional... 4. Finished reading Tess Geritsen's The Keepsake recently. After a break with The Bone Garden we're back to the Rizzoli/Isles series. I think the break helped. While the other books weren't bad by any means, Gerritsen added a bit more action to this time around which ...

Ten Years Gone

So far, my Thanksgiving weekend has been quite different. My roommate and I had my parents, grandmother and uncle over for the actual meal. My aunt/his mother had to work but she provided the chocolate cream pie and got a plate later. As is usual when my family gets together, we laughed a lot. My father told this story he heard on the radio where astronauts have this machine that turns their urine into drinkable water but it's still being perfected so it's still 10% urine. They compensate by using Tang! Supposedly, it tastes good... Yesterday included going to Applebee's for lunch with more family followed by going to my grandparents for more pie and conversation. That was nice actually and devoid of annoying weirdness so yay! Last night, we went down to see the annual "Lighting of the Holiday Tree Ceremony." They call it thus to be PC but aside from "The Dreidel Song" and the universally accepted "I Love Mud." It was all Christmas. Be acc...

You Missed Me! (I'm Telling You That You Did.)

Music- "It's All Over Now"- The Rolling Stones I had to shut the cat out to actually get this post out. I'm catnip... The Sunday before last, and I can't believe I forgot to write about this previously, I went with my aunt, her co-worker and my cousin to see a stage production on the life of Henry W. Longfellow. It was held in the little theater on the second floor of Portland Stage. It was good but you had to pay attention the way the story was presented. There were three performers: Longfellow and a man and woman who are other characters as needed and sometimes act as narrator or Greek Chorus if you will. I liked it. Thanksgiving dinner at my parents' house consisted of us, my uncle and grandmother, who I drove up with, and my aunt so it was a small but good group. Friday before my grandmother and uncle drove back, my uncle, father and I watched the classic Paul Newman movie Cool Hand Luke . I'm ashamed to say I'd never seen it before. Great movie. F...

Thanksgiving Blues

So, we didn't go away for Thanksgiving this year as I came down with an intestinal thing Tuesday night spending about 42 hours straight on a "porcelain cruise." Thankfully, I was able to eat a little something on the actual day and was feeling well enough to preform my duty as greeter this morning at church. Woo Hoo! Lately, I've been keeping busy revising databases. I noticed about a month ago that the All Creatures Great And Small page only had the two stars, Christopher Timothy and Robert Hardy, appearing in thirty of the ninety episodes. Why the hell wouldn't James Herriot appear in a show about James Herriot? I mean one or two episodes maybe but over fifty? In any case, I starting submitting corrections and I noticed last night that someone else has been doing the same bringing the numbers up to fifty-something now. Even more recently, I've been working on applying labels to the archived posts on this here blog. It seems I've taken many quizzes over ...

More Musings

Now that I have more time to think I have things going through my mind. These will be ignored by the readers of my blog but I need to get them off my chest. How does one know if someone is worth pursuing? What are traits that are too hideous to ignore? If we share different politics, for example, will a relationship work? I can think of two examples where yes, they do: one with people I know and one celebrity example. My experience seems to suggest that when politics entered the picture the relationship went south. I used to be hung up on interests, as Lady Vader may remember. I've met someone here that shares music interests (not all but some) down to favorite song. I don't think even She Who Shall Remain Nameless But Blogged About Frequently and I were at that level. (Ok, yes, we both knew all the words to "You'll Be In My Heart" but who doesn't?) The downside, in this category, as I can see is that she is not into Star Trek! I know inter...

Amazingly, I'm a Guy

You are Captain Jack Sparrow, the heat's gone to your head and you're a little crazy and very unpredictable. You love your rum and your ship and for a Pirate you're a pretty good guy. Which Pirates of the Carribean character are you? brought to you by Quizilla I haven't actually seen this movie but Lady Vader and other women drool over this guy so I guess this is good. As I figured. I seriously bit myself in the ass not doing anything on those papers over Thanksgiving. I haven't finished even one and time is running out! Argh!!! (You may be asking why am I not working on it now. ::shrugs::) I can't stand anime but I guess the following is accurate. Your anime hair color is green. What is your anime hair color? brought to you by Quizilla

Thanksgiving Weekend

I'm touched I was missed by at least one person. An anonymous reader read one of my stories as well... Thank You Lady Vader for the former. I could have posted while I was home but I went home for a change of pace. I did nothing for days and loved it. On Wednesday, I went home to CT and saw Enterprise which is unusual for me but the WB decided to start their repeats before everyone else. I thought the concept of the episode was good. Having the Xindi collecting all the different blood types would ensure the whole human race wouldn't be left out of dying when the weapon was set off. Archer was right in suggesting that the Xindi were hiding in the past. They had to pick a time where blood type was kept track of so we're talking twentieth century anyway so why not make it 2004? I liked how they had it in Detroit instead of somewhere in California as it has been lately. (I think the TOS episode "City on the Edge of Forever" was Chicago.) I also loved how...

Let's Have a Quiz...

Again, posted for my personal amusement. ¨ßB¨ßB6dfb6c) What Type of Drunk are you? (pics and many results) brought to you by Quizilla I spent my whole afternoon looking for "A New Rain: The Story of Jesus in Song" which is a Christian Folk album put out in 1977 by Stephen C. Rose on Persephone Records. As far as I can tell, it is not on CD. so, when I go home for Thanksgiving, guess who will be transfering it from LP to tape? Hint: Not you! My God! No wonder I can't find Christian Music: You are the Quizilla Quiz: "Do you want sex? Would you have sex with ME? Please have sex with me!" You are super sexually frustrated and your aim as a quiz is to attract cyber sex partners to your email address. You like to know what size people's boobs are and what their favourite possition is. What sort of Quizilla Quiz are you? (fun) brought to you by Quizilla
