Simply Because I Was Told I Don't Post Enough...

As of this afternoon, I now own, when the final volume arrives in the mail, the entire He-man and the Masters of the Universe series on DVD, all bought off eBay. Now that it's complete, I'll probably cool it with the buying for awhile until money comes in more regularly. (I'm going to damn sure try anyway...) Like the toy store chain Child World, this series was a link to my childhood and my grandmother whom I have a few other fond memories of. (Two of my readers understand exactly what I'm referring to.) The three of us would sit on the floor in front of the TV at our grandmother's and watch the show. (I had to watch the show there as I didn't have cable at the time and this was before there was an independent channel in Maine, later to become Fox then WB and now The CW, to show this stuff but I digress...) Watching the series now, I am reminded just how good cartoons were back in the day. They had action but they also had a moral lesson that is seriously lack

The 500th Post!

This came quicker than I had expected but my day yesterday needs to be discussed. Yes, I'm discussing the Nor'easter of rain that hit town yesterday. This would have been alright but I had to go for the skill tests with that agency as you may remember. I took a taxi down but I couldn't call one for the ride back as the agency's phones had been knocked out by the storm. So I walked. It was only a little over a mile but, with the torrential rain and at times hurricane winds, it was way more of an adventure than I would have really liked. Why not get a bus you might ask? I can never find the bus stop in that section of the city and if I waited for a bus, I may have ended up being just as soaked anyway. The tests themselves went pretty well. He was impressed with my skills using Word and Excel. My 22 WPM speed wasn't so impressive but, since I can get only 30 on a good day, sadly accurate. My readers know about my fine motor control and speed issues. If you don't, &

Countdown To 500th Post

In anticipation of this milestone, I decided I might as well do a "Book Round Up": The first book I read was Darth Bane: Path of Destruction ; a Star Wars novel set in the Sith Era and written by Drew Karpyshyn who apparently wrote the Knights of the Old Republic video game. One could say it's the first and last of this era since it explains the "Rule of Two" effectively ending the period and getting into the more familiar territory of one master and one apprentice. There may be more written but I really don't see the point. The book itself starts off slow but picks up in Part Two when Des becomes Bane. I recommend it if your favorite character on He-man is Skeletor or for you ladies that prefer to ride in sports cars wearing snake-skin pants... The second book, which I finished on the bus ride down to CT for Easter, was an old Star Trek novel I found cheap on eBay: Mind Meld by John Vornholt. This book, while not as mind blowing as Sarek or the "

Holy Week, Batman!

For those non-religiously inclined readers, let me explain the title. The week before Easter is called Holy Week. Today is Palm Sunday. This morning, my church was invited by the Episcopal Church diagonally across the street in their Palm Procesional (and blessing) from the Longfellow Monument. Supposedly there were five from my church. I saw two others. There was me, a "PK", a retired minister and our pastor. this makes sense as only those UCC with more church background would do something of this eccumenical nature. As you may know, from reading CS Lewis perhaps, they are a little more "High Church" then we are in the UCC. The service at my church was a little different today. Instead of a sermon, we had an intergenerational dramatic presentation. It was basically the Stations of the Cross which is a Catholic thing, anyway. (The Espicopalians may also do this; I don't know.) Thursday, though I'm going home for the weekend, they're having a Maunday Thu
