This Is Where I Was And Will Be Again

These are pictures from my first trip down to Southwest Florida this past October. The 'rents and I are going back down tomorrow so I thought I'd give all one of you a clue to where I was. This is a local park called Ponce De Leone Park. I like this shot because it shows some differences between down there and up here. There's some pretty tacky homes down there. Some homes, maybe that one, are worth about a million dollars and don't look much more interesting than that. By the way, we hope to see a real manatee or two this time... This is Gilchrist Park. That water in the lower left corner is actually part of a big fountain. Again, this shot shows a big difference in climate from up here. Interestingly, this park has the more extravagant Ponce De Leone statue/monument. Weird... We will probably visit this park again at least once while we're down. The theme of differences continues here, al beit morbidly. I had to get a shot of this as it amused me. (Although the

Had To Have The Picture

You scored as Old School Democrat . Old school Democrats emphasize economic justice and opportunity. Honestly, I'd much rather keep out those who shouldn't be in office than put in those who should. In this day and age, it doesn't seem you can have it both ways. Looking ahead to the 2008 elections, right now, I think I'd vote for Hillary Clinton but I'd honestly not be that upset with John McCain as he's

Earth Day Post

Recently, I finished reading State of Fear by Michael Crichton. I've enjoyed his books for years (I did a Literary Analysis paper on Sphere junior year of high school) although I think they've consistently made shitty movies out of them. I really hope Hollywood leaves this one alone. I have to say this: State of Fear is his best yet. I finished the book two days ago and there are still people in the book I don't trust. It's a techno-thriller that deals with eco-terrorists. I hadn't planned to finish it so close to Earth Day but it seems fitting. What I enjoy about Crichton's books is that, even though they are works of fiction, they usually include a bibliography this is no exception as it has a 20-pager included as well as two appendices. Not that I want to spoil anything but I was disappointed Peter didn't choose to pursue a relationship with either Sarah or Jennifer. In the scheme of things, that may be a very small nitpick, however. Yesterday, m

Irritation

I'm posting because I'm royally irritated and I have no one else to bitch to. For a couple months we at my church have been planning a Church Family Movie Night. We specifically called it such so people without families wouldn't feel out of place in coming. The original plan by the Christian Ed committee that I'm on was to show The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe because it appealed to everyone say 5th grade and up, maybe even younger. I would love to see it a third time myself. This event was being planned in conjunction with the Deacons. One of the Deacons who has children ages around 2 and 5 thought that this movie was too scary for young children, which it probably is. My father tells me today that the crappy new Herbie the Love Bug movie with Lindsay Lohan will be shown instead. In my opinion, and I'm sure I could find film critics who agree with me, this movie would only appeal to young children of which we have only a handful or two, middle school ag

Tuesday With Myself

So I woke up rather early again this morning. For some reason, I've only been sleeping about 6 hours a night. I'm unsure if it's because my sleep cycle is still screwed up or my allergies haven't adjusted to spring pollen yet or maybe both. Oh well... I went downstairs and saw mail that apparently I wasn't given yesterday at my place at the dining room table. It was a rejection letter from that university in Scotland. Honestly, this isn't surprising after getting more info on exactly what the job entailed. I don't think I'd want to work for them if they thought I was qualified! OMG! So now that I'm less interested in pursuing anything, the woman seems more interested. For now, I choose to interpret this as her wanting to remain friends with me which we all know I could use as well...I think I've said this at least once before but this would be the first time something like that has ever happened, really. I mean many have said it but they h

Easter, Temp Jobs and Observations

Chinchilla You scored 25 nervousness! You really should be more nervous. People want to make coats out of you, you know. It's a harsh, harsh world, my friend. Link: The Small Nervous Animal Test written by zombieface on OkCupid Free Online Dating , home of the 32-Type Dating Test Ok, I'm warming up to Mark Loretta given his ninth inning heroics today but I'm still not convinced the trade was a good thing as Josh Bard wasn't particularly good on Saturday. Yesterday, I ran a Easter Egg Hunt for the kids at church. I really should have given the little kids a headstart as I had intended but I forgot and I also really should have collected all the plastic eggs and should not have let the kids take the baskets home. Maybe I'll remember all these things next time. Last night or maybe Saturday night, I finally got my sleep cycle back to normal after finishing the mail room assignment Friday morning. Oh, get this we finished at 4am instead of 7am so I had to wait alm

Adventures of the Nocturnal Man

So far working a night job isn't as hard as I thought it would be but I wouldn't be surprised if it hits me in the next day or two. The job itself isn't too bad. I'm helping get the quarterlies, which are quarterly reports of course, out. If this was during the day, I'd probably almost actually like it. This is probably the easiest temp job I've been assigned to yet. Obviously, the lax nature of it probably is only because of the shift time but I can't imagine it getting any harder. The first day, I made the mistake of wearing a long sleeve shirt but I corrected this problem last night and was not cold at all though there were times, at the busiest moments, I was still a bit too hot. It's too cold most of the time to wear shorts. Maybe someone should develop "magic pants" where the legs disappear and reappear on a whim of the wearer... A note to my readers: the person and I seem to be willing to work things out, maybe. We'll see...

Ah, Baseball Time...

Ok so the opener yesterday in Texas was very good for my Sox. Tonight, they are stinking it up bad. I don't even want to know how badly they're doing right now. Can I bitch once more about the trading of Mirabelli? Ok, Josh Bard could have been much worse but he doesn't even bring the offense that Doug did. The jury is still out on Mark Loretta. Today, I helped a friend run a financial seminar for his new business. I helped check-in the guests. I was promised a nice dinner but since they ran out of food, I got nothing..Except a nice chunk of change for my trouble! Woo Hoo! Before I go to bed, I have to say just one thing. It's all but over with that person. We talked just now as I was starting this post and she's not interested in me if I'm settling which I, unfortunately, have to admit I am. No, I don't find her drop dead gorgeous as she seemed to want in a man to which I say so what, no, the big issue for me is that I want someone who enjoys at least

As You Know, I'm An Only Child...

You Are Likely a Third Born At your darkest moments, you feel vulnerable. At work and school, you do best when you're comparing things. When you love someone, you tend to like to please them. In friendship, you are loyal to one person. Your ideal careers are: sales, police officer, newspaper reporter, inventor, poet, and animal trainer. You will leave your mark on the world with inventions, poetry, and inspiration. The Birth Order Predictor The odd thing about this is, much of what is said here is actually true. Does that say more about this quiz or me? I'm concerned about the silence from my POI. Well, silence is not really the word. She comes on AIM when I'm Away says hi and then immediately logs off. She doesn't seem to be on at our usual conversation time anymore yet never suggests we change the time through e-mail or whatever. Should I take this as a sign she's no longer interested or does this imply she wants me to do all the damn work and suggest a time ch

Movies and a Job Update

I finally got the details of my new temp job. It wouldn't be downtown as I thought but at a branch that's in the same town as the library who's test I completely bombed. I also discovered that I don't start until Wednesday night instead of Monday night as I expected. The third surprise is that I'll be working ten days straight, as in through the weekend, so that'll be different. Previously, all the jobs have been for only three days. I'm not sure how much I'll be posting but, knowing me, I'm sure I will at least once. Last night, we rented a couple movies. The first one we watched was The Squid and the Whale with Jeff Daniels and Laura Linney. It was quirky like such films as the Royal Tannenbaums but wasn't really that funny nor was it suppose to be I don't think. Not being a child of divorce, I have no gauge on the film's realism but all I can say is "Wow." My mother, who is a child of divorce, could barely watch it.
