For many reasons, including no time or ambition to do so on my part, I have not posted in awhile but I was told recently that people actually enjoy reading this so I have returned and have a few things I want to discuss.
1. The first season of Black Lightning ended awhile ago but was quite enjoyable. Time will tell but at least for now, the writers have found a formula unlike other superhero series from Smallville to the present shows on The CW and Netflix. One way to look at it is they haven't finished the setup. Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning may have one daughter Anissa who has joined his fight as Thunder but Jennifer still technically isn't Lightning yet. (Yeah, Black Lightning AND Lightning? But given her electricity-generating power, what else would you call her? Generator Y?) And the big bad Tobias Whale doesn't seem to be finished yet. Hopefully, he won't become another Lex Luthor but, in some ways, he already is...
With viewers now seeing the inner-city African American experience, albeit from a father's perspective not really seen (only glimpsed) in Black Panther, I hope if DC actually does a Cyborg movie, they focus on Victor Stone feeling like an outcast/freak but time will tell...
2. Again, I finished watching the first season of Netflix's Lost In Space. I have mixed feelings about it. As shows are nowadays, the whole season was basically the pilot. I'm still not sure I like that. I'm also not sure I liked the show randomly having opening credits on a few episodes but mostly not. Hopefully, with the show fully set up, this'll change. (I think I did read somewhere it was renewed for second season...) I think while the show is clearly darker than the original, this change seems to be more tolerable than when it was done with the remakes of Bionic Woman and Knight Rider.
I love Parker Posey as the new Dr. Smith and the new Polly is awesome. I love the new design of the Robot but hope the switching from good to evil and then back again is finally over... John, Maureen and Judy grew on me over the course of the season but I'm not impressed with the new Don and Will. I don't recall Bill Mumy being that whiny and all kids were annoying on '60's TV.
3. I'm sure you've heard by now what I spectacle Avengers: Infinity War is. All you need to know is that it was awesome... I do have a large nitick, however. I understand the symbolism of the OG Avengers, presumably joined by Hawkeye, Antman and Wasp and Captain Marvel for sure given the signal send out by Nick Fury, but wiping Spider-Man, Dr. Strange and Black Panther from existence when you know they have solo sequels coming makes it too obvious they aren't gone for good. I also want to note they could have easily split this film into two films making a trilogy total. I would have been totally down for that...
