An X- ceptible Ending

The last X-Men movie before Marvel has  greater control over the franchise, Dark Phoenix  was probably the best one could hope for. The biggest problems were the franchise's continued resistance to keeping track of their own continuity (Mystique is alive in "the near future" of the very first movie but dies here in 1992?) and the seemingly random and definitely obscure choice of using the D'Bari as the villains. Apparently, the D'Bari homeworld WAS destroyed by the Phoenix Force in the comics but after Jean Grey purged herself of the power, not before... My first thought when seeing the shape-shifters was "If you didn't want to copy Captain Marvel, why use the Skrull?" Though I can't think of any other examples, making an Easter egg a major plotline leaves me unsettled...

Speaking of  Captain Marvel, apparently, the climax of this film setting was changed from space to a military train to avoid comparison. The best part of the film was the beginning where the team goes to space to rescue the crew of the space shuttle Endeavor which revealed the Blackbird has a gun turret fitted for Cyclops' optic blasts. This leads me to believe they should have just left it alone... I mean how many times do we need to see the military doggedly shoot at aliens even after it's clear that bullets don't hurt them?

It doesn't need to be said, but this was much better than Last Stand, the last attempt at bring the Dark Phoenix Saga to the screen...

Notes:
1. Surprised there was no post-credit scene especially given it's supposed to be a prequel. Jean's dead? Xavier retired?
2. Why did Mystique and Beast show their "true blue selves" in public but appear normal in the privacy of the school? Wouldn't the opposite make more sense even with the world already knowing what they looked like?
3. Apparently,  Magneto's female lieutenant was Selene the Black Queen. I think race-bending worked against them here... Also, I still have no idea who "Dreadlock Medusa" was supposed to be...
4. Writer/director Simon Kinberg must hate helicopters. I can't think of another movie where so many were brought down...

Random Comments Into My Life

We did yardwork yesterday. I picked up a lot of sticks. Home Depot sucks on a Friday morning. My father and I went to get a new gascan for the mower and there was only one employee around to help us...and she didn't know anything about how these new fangled gas cans work... So due to a bank error when I reset my bank account so I could accurately keep track again, I had like a hundred dollars less in my account than I thought so my last bill payment put me in the hole. This would've been all right and easily fixed if I had been paid for the last week of my mailroom job but, oddly, I still have not been even though it's been weeks. I don't know if I can accurately convey how infuriated this makes me. If it doesn't happen soon, heads will roll! Also yesterday I re-watched the Enterprise episode "Regeneration"; this time with audio commentary from the writers. They made some valid points I hadn't considered on the issue of if this episode screws with...

Remind Me

Remind me to complain how boring and unexciting my life more often because as soon as I did, it got really exciting really fast. Last night, we had four visitors arrive from Korea. They like ziti and garlic bread. Go figure. They will be staying until Sunday night. I told my mother (AKA Hyacinth Bucket) she was making way too much salad but did she listen? No. Now we have this huge-ass bowl of salad in the fridge...What's really irritating is first the fork we use to serve catfood went missing now Susie's dish is missing as well... Tomorrow, I have a physical to prepare for my surgery then I go to my orthopedist's to fill out consent forms. Woo Hoo! I hope I can find time for a haircut as well because... Friday, I have a job interview at a library in Massachusetts! It's a reference job but I also will be conducting a book group. I've never done that but it sounds really fun. Sure, I'll be stuck reading many book that sucks but isn't that what book group i...

And Now, A Lame Quiz!

Your Score : Dionysus 33% Extroversion, 46% Intuition, 55% Emotiveness, 76% Perceptiveness Although deeply emotional, you are extremely lacking in self-knowledge. You are somewhat needy, and when bored, may become very hedonistic. Your life is a quest for meaning, above all else. You are most like Dionysus. You are primarily interested in serving others, but your efforts are almost always unappreciated. You aren't confrontational, you're often out of tune with your own needs and unaware of the consequences of your own actions. You are, at heart, a good person. You are very affectionate, and you are very loyal to your friends and family. You are very reluctant to burden others with your own problems, to the point that this in itself can become a problem for the people who care about you. This is a particular of a more general problem. Dionysus sends wave of ruin throughout his personal life. He is the photographer who seduces his subjects. He is the teacher who seduces a student...
