Reviews, Bad News and a Loopdy Loo or Two.

Probably not in that order.

First, that UConn-Albany game. The Huskies really would have to have the "suck" label placed on them if they didn't pull that game out of their ass. Somehow I knew that the announcers going on and on about what an upset it would be would actually help Connecticut win since the opposite is almost always true no matter what sport your watching but it was way more of a nail biter than I really was predicting when I sat down for it. They better hope that they fixed their problem going into the next round because they will be slaughtered if they turn the ball over that many times but then, you all knew that...

Before I get to the movie reviews, my thoughts on our trip this morning to the Yale British Arts Center. We went because we heard of the art exhibit by John Virtue of London that was going on now but the whole collection was very interesting and it was free so that's always good.

Last night and this morning, I watched two movies. With my parents I watched Rent last night. The whole time I was like this movie is all right but not the best work Chris Columbus has ever done. (Mrs. Doubtfire is one of my all time faves and the first two Harry Potter films were also better than this.) I say all this but this long movie went by very quickly so I'm guessing I subconsciously liked it which is a strange realization.

This morning I watched, by myself, Ultimate Avengers: The Movie. Overall, this was a great movie. However, not only do I question why it was rated PG-13 when nothing sexual or anything more violent than you'd expect in a superhero cartoon happened, the main problem I had with it was that the series premiere of Justice League already had a "form a team of heroes to stop a shape-shifting, gooey-looking alien invasion" plot although I admit it was done here a tad more convincingly. I do also question why Captain American was fighting these aliens during WWII instead of the Red Skull but that's probably neither here nor there.

Now, I must close with something much more serious. We received an e-mail from the woman who replaced my parents at our old church that our former next door neighbor died on Wednesday. His three daughters and I were great friends growing up though we drifted apart around high school. One just had a birthday last week I remember. Long time readers and those others who've known me otherwise for a long time, know that one of the older twin daughters was actually my first love. I just found out a couple hours ago so a lot of memories are flooding back which is not something I want to be thinking about now considering the woman I've been talking with online implied earlier today that she's ready to meet next weekend. Nothing is ever easy is it?

I remember your neighbors. I'm really sorry. Keep your mind on the future woman though, I like the sounds of her! :)

The Neglected Blog

With the discovery of the time-waster that is Facebook, I find I no longer need to waste my time here. This is mainly why I haven't done any quizzes or other memes here in a cat's age. (I'm not a dog person...) They're all over there. Also why tell you all about what's not going on in my life when I can better waste time by making fake money off Lindsay Lohan's hi-jinks? Added to that, you can regularly follow the mundaness that is my life on Twitter. I don't want to say I'll never blog again. Frankly, this site and I have chronicled much over the years and I'm not ready to give it up fully. Every so often, something comes up worth sharing. Case in point, Thursday night, there was a retirement celebration for our outgoing OT professor complete with a guest lecturer from Boston, dinner and a vesper service designed by the professor herself. It was good Thai food, though admittedly not my favorite Asian cuisine, and saw many people I knew. My parents c

Reversion To The Old Ways

Since there seems to be no rhyme or reason to which of my posts get comments and which don't, I'm going post whatever I feel like. Sure, I love comments but I must face facts that I'm not going to get them. No, I'm not going to review every episode of every TV show I'm going to watch this new season again simply because it doesn't appeal to me any more. To be sure, I will write about some of the new series since that does still interest me but not every episode... I am going to go back to complaining about my love life occassionally though because, if I can't discuss it here, where can I? Remember that workstudy student I mentioned being interested in? Yeah, well she's married apparently and I think even has at least one child so even if she didn't commute from such a long distance, nothing is going to happen with that. (Boo!) This is the first time I've discovered information of this nature before I made a complete ass of my self so this is go

The Big E and Other Commentary

Last night, we went to the Big E up in West Springfield. It was apparently Connecticut Day so the parade was all CT all the time. It was the longest parade I have ever watched. It went on like forever. We got a baked potato at the Maine Building and a Spiced Apple Cider Donut at the Vermont building as well as sharp cheese called "The Preacher." I wanted to get "The Green Mountain Boys" which was supposedly XX-sharp but my father wouldn't go for it. We then went to the Sam Adams Beer Garden where I ordered an Octoberfest. Mine was 20 ounces so it looked huge compared to the little cups of chardonnay my parents ordered. We then went over to get the special Big E cream puff. Has anyone heard Clay Aiken's new song? He's covering Badfinger's "Without You" of all things and, I really hate say this, it's pretty good... We're having another Movie Night a week from tomorrow. We've decided today that we're going to watch Akeela
